Class Descriptions

9 AM TaiChi Methods Class

A drop-in style class; anyone is invited to attend at any time and the class intends to give enough guidance that one can follow along fairly well without previous knowledge. With repeated attendance, the dedicated student gradually owns the movements for themselves, with increasing subtlety and awareness. For the first 25 minutes or so of the session we move through the 18 Therapies - a Ch’i Gong type set - learned from the esteemed Maggie Newman. The remainder of the hour consists of about 12 movements, 8 of which are the 8 Methods of Cheng Man-Ch’ing - a series of exercises that cultivate the key energetics of T’aiChi, many drawn directly from the Yang Style Short Form. The student is given access to video resources demonstrating many of these movements, to assist in their personal study and practice. Prospective students are invited to observe a class. Beginners Class

For new students as well as review students. We start together as a cohort and new beginners must start within a few weeks of the start of the series. These series generally meet weekly in a one hour time slot, until we cover the entire 37 Posture Yang Style Short Form, which takes about a year. I suggest committing monthly (or quarterly), though you may commit to the degree that you think serves you best. Prospective students are invited to observe a session. Prerequisite: the ability to put all your weight on one leg at least 2 seconds (if not, the 9 AM Essentials is the class in which to start) For more info Contact Richard

Corrections Class

For students who have learned the entire Cheng Man-Ch’ing Yang Style Short Form. Each class, we focus on a specific section of form, usually 1 or 2 postures, working on choreographic details, and the energetics and principles that allow those postures to express well. Students are given direct feedback on their form
